LRFC U7-U10 Academy Program

Registration for the Fall 2010 Academy Soccer program has ended. Registration for spring 2011 will open on December 1.

This Fall LRFC will introduce its most progressive and exciting training and development program to date--the LRFC Academy Program. In addition to the current U7-U10 recreational program, LRFC will offer Academy divisions in each of these age groups.

What is the Academy Program and how is it different from what has been done in the past? Our Academy Program is the highest level of player development modeled after the training and development programs in Europe and around the world. The Academy will be headed up by Director of Coaching Nick Sherwood (USSF “A” License and National Youth License) and will be run by 5 full-time coaches, including new Assistant Directors of Coaching Sean Dunbar (USSF “B” License and National Youth License) and Brittany Axford (USSF “B” License and National Youth License). The Academy will also have an assistant coach for each team as well as a full-time goalkeeper coach.

It is well recognized that players will not develop and reach their full potential at the same rate or at the same time. More often than not, so called weaker players at U7 become some of the best and strongest soccer players in their teenage years. In order for all players to reach their potential, they need proper training and development at an early age. That is what the Academy Program is designed to do.

The concept for the Academy Program is simple: Individual player development. We want to provide appropriate training for all members of the Academy. How do we do this? Instead of having set “teams” where players play and compete with and against the same players day in and day out, we have one team or a player “pool” for each age group where our coaches can manipulate the training groups and teams from one week to the next in order to provide the players with the appropriate level of competition and success that each player needs to maximize development and enjoyment of the game.

Think about any team your child has been a part of in the past. There are always 1-2 players that are your “best” players and 1-2 that are your “weakest” players. In any given practice the 1-2 top players become bored because the training session is too easy while the 1-2 weakest players become frustrated because the training session is too hard. The Academy pool system alleviates both of these problems by giving us the freedom to move players where it is best for them. If we have players that are very good we will place them in a tougher training group. If we have players that are struggling with some concepts we will place them with an appropriate training group so they can develop quicker. This will challenge both sets of players at their current playing level while also allowing them to have the success that they need to enjoy the game.

The Academy Program is a concept that is used all over the world and is the best means of development and retention for young players. It is the future of soccer across the country and Little Rock Futbol Club. We hope you will consider it for your child.
